Barry Watkins, Architect_Project Manager / Technical Production
Barry has worked with Jeff Zimmerman for most of his 35-year career. First working with Jeff at Fisher-Friedman Associates while an Intern from Rice University in his native Texas, after graduation Barry returned to San Francisco and hooked up with Jeff again in 1986 at Columbus Architects.
Concentrating on the development of designs with consultants and the construction of projects with contractors, Barry’s principal interest has been multi-family residential and mixed-use projects using a variety of construction methods.
Significant projects in which Barry has had a major role include the Harris State Office Building in Oakland (27-story steel frame), 140 South Van Ness in SF (11-story concrete frame), 550 Moreland in Santa Clara (8-story proprietary steel moment frame) and Phoenix Commons (a 4-story wood frame cooperative senior community).
Not to say that Barry has not done numerous residential remodels and single-family homes, not to mention the Bishops’ Ranch swim center and Raven Theatre stage renovation, both in Healdsburg.
Barry is the president of the Ostomy Association of Sonoma County and a board member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Sebastopol. Otherwise, he is singing in senior facilities with the Sonoma Songsters, at the Gospel Music Workshop of America with The Lighthouse Singers of Marin County, or all over the place with the Fourth Day Gospel Singers of Sonoma County.
