Jeff Zimmerman, AIA_Founding Principal
Jeff is the founding principal of Zimmerman + Associates, with offices in Sonoma, Sausalito, and Healdsburg. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1979, and studied abroad at the Ecole d'Art Americain in Fontainbleau, France. After graduation, Jeff joined Fisher-Friedman Associates in San Francisco, as a Project Designer, working on several award winning multi-family and mixed use projects. In 1982 Jeff went to work for the Berkus Group in Santa Barbara as a Project Designer. In that capacity, he was involved in residential and resort projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Texas. In 1985 Jeff moved back to San Francisco to open the offices of Columbus Architects, which has evolved into Zimmerman and Associates. Jeff has led in the planning and design of more than 5,000 dwellings in communities throughout the United States and Canada, collecting seven national and numerous local awards. Jeff has taught Architecture to fifth graders through the Learning Education through the Arts Project (LEAP) in San Francisco, as well as lecturing at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, the California College of Arts and Crafts in San Francisco, and the University of California at Berkeley. Jeff is a Board Member of the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. He currently resides in Sonoma California with his wife Laura and their three children, in a home, which Jeff designed, surrounded by their zinfandel vineyard.
